Prof. Dr. Ahmed Awad was the leader of the Data Systems Group from October 2020 till September 2023. Ahmed got his Ph.D. from Hasso-Plattner Institute, Potsdam University, Germany in 2010. Before that, he got his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Cairo University in 2000 and 2003 respectively. Ahmed’s research interests are in big streams processing, complex event processing, and applications thereof, especially in business process management. Dr. Awad has more than 60 publications in international journals such as Information Systems, Intelligent Information Systems, Cluster Computing, conferences such as BPM, CAiSE, ICPM, WWW, Big Compe, ICDE, and workshops.
Prof. Awad's research interests are in data streams, complex event processing, and their applications in process mining. Another field of interest is online machine learning. Namely, drift detection on data streams and online recommender systems. Last but not least, large-scale process analytics, is of interest as well. Specifically, devising distributed analytics algorithms for process discovery, conformance checking, and compliance monitoring. Additionally, applying automated machine learning principles to minimize the human intervention with the choice of best-fitting discovery, conformance algorithms.
